May Day, or May 1 is also known as Labour Day or International Workers’ Day is observed each year on the first day of May to celebrate achievements of the working class. This is May Day is different than that of other years. Around the world, workers under lock down marked a subdued Labor Day. In Bangladesh the situation is also same. In recent years, working conditions in many situations in the RMG sector seen significant improvement in respect to working conditions and building safety. But the current pandemic of COVID-19 shows that the conditions of the workers remain same where their health and safety remains ignored by both employers and buyers. The workers still have to demonstrate on the road for their due salary. Many factories are sacking the workers without any notice. The conditions of the informal sector workers are even worst than that. Government has declared the major portion of their incentives for the export-oriented industries thus the informal sector again going to face an uncertain struggle. On this workers day, we should ensure that the workers are getting their right in this global crisis to regain themselves from this pandemic so that they can serve.
